Woksape Tipi Interlibrary Loan Service Guidelines

Who is eligible to use Interlibrary Loan (ILL)?
Oglala Lakota College students, staff faculty, and community members.

Are users charged for this service?
No.

How long does it take for ILL materials to arrive?
It depends. Books usually take seven to ten days to arrive, while academic articles usually arrive in three to five days.

How will I know when my materials arrive?
The Circulation/ILL clerk will send an email notifying you of its arrival (if you provided one), and will attempt to reach you over the phone. If you would like to contact the Circulation Desk personally to check on the status of your loan, the number is (605)455-6069.

Do I need to pick my items up at the library, or can you mail them to me?
Residents of Pine Ridge Reservation and surrounding areas (i.e., Rapid City, Hermosa, Box Elder), OLC students, staff and faculty are generally expected to retrieve their items from the Main Library in Kyle, South Dakota. Students at Eagle Butte College Center will have their items mailed directly to their home college center.

How many requests can be made at one time?
It is preferable to ask for no more than five items per day, ten items per week, and thirty per semester. If you have a dire need for more materials than the stated limits, we will try to accommodate you within reason.

Who do I contact regarding Interlibrary Loans?
Sara Parker at (605)455-6069 or sparker@olc.edu. If Ms. Parker is unavailable, you can speak with any member of the Main Library staff, and your request will be processed as soon as possible.

How long can I keep my interlibrary loans?
Generally about two or three weeks from the time your materials arrive. All ILL materials arrive with a due date slip and paperwork. The due date and paperwork MUST remain with its corresponding material.

Is it possible to renew interlibrary loans?
Yes, but not always. It depends on the policies of the lending institution. Renewal requests are more likely to be granted if you contact Woksape Tipi Library before the due date enclosed in your book/DVD/CD/etc.

Do these loan rules apply to academic articles in photocopied or PDF format?
No.

Are interlibrary loans subject to U.S. copyright laws?
Yes.

What happens if I lose an ILL book?
Woksape Tipi Library is held liable for interlibrary loans, and we will pay half the cost to replace it. If you are unable to pay for the lost materials, we are willing to negotiate. If you do not contact us regarding your lost/overdue ILL materials, your ILL privileges will be terminated.

Are there any items that can't be loaned?
Yes. This varies widely depending on the lending institution, but some of the more difficult items to request through ILL are very old or very new items, electronic media, microfilm, dissertations, and photocopied articles longer than twenty pages.
