Subject: Photocopies of photographs: Five Bad Heart Bull drawings in the Mari Sandoz Collection. These drawings were gathered from the Bad Heart Bull family in the late 1920's by Helen Blish. These drawings and many others were eventually published by the University of Nebrask Press in 1967 as: A Pictographic History of the Oglala Sioux by Amos Bad Heart Bull.

Subject: This is an immense collection of note cards kept by Mari Sandoz as she read, interviewed and researched Oglala Sioux history surrounding the period when Crazy Horse was living. There are four library drawers full of these cards at the Mari Sandoz Collection, and all of them have been copied and are available here. There is a large section on Crazy Horse, his family and band, almost a drawer full of cards on full bloods, a drawer on mixed bloods an non-Indians, and a section of cards on agents and agencies.
Secondary Information: These cards were created for Mari Sandoz' personal use, and therefore she made no attempt to make them accessible to the public. As a result, researchers will sometimes feel some frustration when the handwriting is unclear, or when Sandoz does not list a particular source. In most cases, however, sources are listed, and the cards are readable. While every attempt has been made to clarify the materials for archives users in the introduction to the notebooks, some problems remain. Note: These materials are in the Oversize Box.

Subject: This questionnaire was part of the Maurice Frink section of the Walker Papers. It comes from a period directly preceding the establishment of Oglala Lakota College in 1971. The Sioux History and Culture class was taught by Gerald One Feather and Amos Bad Heart Bull. Evelyn Whirlwind Horse was director of Title I and coordinated the class with Black Hills State College. The class was taught in the spring of 1970 on the Oglala Community School campus in the log building known as "the log cabin" which later served as a central office for Oglala Lakota College, and still later as the central office of the Pine Ridge College Center, OLC.

Subject: Interviews conducted by Eleanor Hinman and Mari Sandoz concerning the life of Crazy Horse. The interviews were conducted in the summer of 1930 in preparation for a book Eleanor Hinman planned to write on Crazy Horse. The book was never written, and Miss Hinman turned her interviews and other notes over to Mari Sandoz who later published Crazy Horse, the Strange Man of the Oglalas. These notes are now in the Nebraska Historical Society collection under Miss Hinman's name.

Subject: Apparently planned to be part of the book Pine Ridge Medicine Man (concerning the life of Dr. James Walker), this bibliography was compiled by Maurice Frink in 1968. It is very thorough and partially annotated. It contains lists of collections, Dakota dictionaries, government publications, books and pamphlets, articles news reports, and letters.

Subject: An appendix to an unidentified paper. This appendix focuses upon the life of Antoine Janis, giving both notes and a bibliography. It was compiled by Dean Krackel, then at the National Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
